I dag har FN utnevnt en kvinne til å lede et fredsoppdrag, og det er første gang en kvinne har fått dette ansvaret.
Generalsekretær Ban Ki-moon utnevnte den norske generalen Kristin Lund som sjef for FNs fredsoppdrag på Kypros. Den 13 august 2014 skal hun erstatte den nåværende kommandanten, kinesiske general Chao Liu.
General Lund skal være ansvarlig, samt leder for 900 "blå hjelmer" (som er tilnavnet på FN-soldater på grunn av de karakteristiske blå hjelmene) og politimenn. FN-styrken patruljerer en 180 kilometer lang buffersone som deler Kypros i to. I sør har republikken Kypros kontrollen, mens i nord har Tyrkia kontrollen (siden 1974).

Today the United Nations have appointed a woman to lead a UN-Peace mission. This is the first time in the history of the UN a woman has been given this responsibility.
UN Chief, Ban Ki-moon, appointed the Norwegian General Kristin Lund as commander for the peacve mission on Cyprus. On the 13th of August 2014 she shall replace the current commander, the Chinese General Chao Liu.
General Lund shall be responsible and leading 900 Blue Helmets (as the UN soldiers are nicknamed due to their typical blue helmets) and policemen. They are patrolling the 180 kilometer long buffer zone which is dividing Cyprus into two parts. In the South the Republic of Cyprus has the control while in the North, since 1974, Turkey has the control.
